The set position is very important to the rest of the shot. Repeating how you get to your set position using a drill can speed up the learning process. You can repeat your set position without shooting the arrow, which means you can improve this skill without fatiguing as much as when you shoot. This drill will make you take time to really think about how you reach your set position and repeat it consistently. This will make your grip and hook more consistent.
1.Prepare to shoot an arrow as normal. Stand on the shooting line, you can place an arrow on the string if you like.
2.Come to the set position and set your grip and hook.
3.Stop the shot and bring the bow back down. Repeat.
Note: You can make many variations of this drill; try it with your eyes closed for instance.
Notes:
To get any benefit from this drill, it is important to understand how to do this stage of the shot correctly.
