Archery Drills - Setup Repeats

Your set-up is where you achieve most of your alignment, so drilling it into your memory is a key part of consistently repeating your real full draw position. This drill should help you to get to your set-up position, and be able to repeat this.

Key Points

1. Stand on the shooting line as normal and prepare for your shot.

2. Do your normal shot cycle and open the bow until the set-up position. Then bring the bow back down. Repeat.

3. As you let the bow down, make sure to keep your draw shoulder neutral in the socket, the same as when you are drawing the bow. Do not allow it to pull forward in the socket.

As you do this drill, you must make sure that you repeat your set-up in the same way, even as you fatigue. It is important to maintain your direction and movement. Lastly, you need to maintain your draw hand hook and the connection between this and your draw elbow.
